My MO ordered my prescription today and the pharmacy said it is not covered by your insurance. I still have to speak to the insurance company, but posted because i freaked out!!

Anybody in similar situation? I have BCBS , PPO plan.

We are talking about 3652 pills * $471. I dont even want to calculate this!!!

    Breathe.

Femara is the brand name. That's probably why your insurance won't pay for it--they want you to get a generic. The generic is Letrozole. I see Letraozole for about $13-15/month around town. Look at https://www.goodrx.com/femara?drug-name=femara for local prices and coupons.

I agree with ksusan. Check out the generics. I pay $5.00 a month for Letrozole generic.

I pay $9/mo for Letrozole generic at my non-preferred pharmacy (because it’s the only one that would order me a specific mfr. for the generic). If I were willing to drive the 5 miles to Wal-Mart or put up with my Part D carrier’s own mail-order pharmacy, it’d be $5. If you require the brand name Femara, I was able to get 90 pills for $588 from canadadrugs.com (the NovartisUK brand). Not cheap, but less than the $2100-2700 I was quoted from Costco, CVS, Walgreen’s, Osco & Walmart. (And that’s assuming the brand name Femara is on my Part D’s formulary…which it’s not).

3,652 pills for $471? First of all, that’s more than a ten-year supply. Second, it works out to 13 cents a pill.

    Hi everyone,

The print out that the pharmacist handed me over, says Letrozole.

So I am assuming my doctor ordered generic.

Not sure if I have to talk to my MO or Insurance company

You'd think getting a prescription filled at the best price would be a simple matter. Apparently not. You're going to have to be your own best detective to get a good price.

I just had a 90 day prescription for letrozole filled at my insurance's mail order pharmacy (and they used Teva as I requested) Insurance paid $123 and I pay a $10 copay. For 90 days!

Before that I got my prescription filled at a local independent pharmacy for $10 per month but they also had a program where they would fill it for the same price without insurance. You just really have to check around and start harassing your insurance to get proper coverage. Call them, file an appeal, etc. There is no excuse for denial.

I'm not sure if this link will help, but you could look at it and see:

    What a relief!! Thanks everyone.

Apparently there was some confusion, I still dont know what it was, but I finally got my meds from CVS for $0 since i have high deductible!

Will start taking the pills probably next week.

Im both nervous and happy. I hope this was end of cancer!
