I developed anot infection in the mastectomy site, and had to have the reconstruction expander removed. I have been in the hospital for 6 days now. They did the operation on the 5 day, after I noticed the chest was red and swelling on the second day. I was told to go to the ER when I called the clinic with a fever reaching up to 103.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

My expander was removed shortly before starting chemo, not due to infection, but delayed skin healing. I went through chemo without the left side and had the expander replaced about 6 weeks after chemo was over. I was able to expand slowly and carefully, and exchange without incident. I also have a friend who had to stop chemo for a period due to infection at her SNB site, but she was able to resume once the infection was controlled. Are you in the middle of chemo now - what regimen?

I have had two out of 6 treatments. My next is on the 29th of the month. It looks good for moving forward. I went to just get through them as soon as possible. TAC treatment. My oncologist thinks we should be good to go. Lab work for the infection will be back tomorrow. So I will know then.
