what does prophylactic measure mean?

I had a stereotactic breast biopsy and thyroid ultrasound and now my patient portal with my primary updated with 'prophylactic measure'? Any ideas?

    I'm afraid that isn't enough information for me to give you useful intel. Do you have the pathology report from the biopsy sample? Is the us report from the thyroid available? the wording of these reports would shed more light on what 'prophylactic measure' may be in order and to which issue (breast or thyroid) it could be referring. Without that, it is all speculation. Sorry!

    prophylactic measures are usually to prevent future problems. added to current treatment.

    Ok, I found out. Thyroid nodule grew to 4cm, so last time I saw endocrinologist said if it grew we would take the whole thing out. I kind of expected that. Now I just have to hope my biopsy comes back with good news.
