I have lymphedema ( swelling) in my breast from breast cancer but the pain I'm feeling is in my shoulder, my upper arm and sometimes my forearm. Does that make sense

hi there Patti211, when were you diagnosed and what treatments have you had? Your pain could be caused by something other than lymphedema, or it could be, just not quite enough info to respond, so sorry you are in pain.

Hi Patti: I have had lymphedema in my breast for the past year. It is very swollen red and pitted but not painful. Have you seen an LE therapist? A really knowledgable therapist might help you out.

Lymphedema of the breast is a common consequence of breast surgery and/or breast irradiation. It is believed to be caused by damage or destruction of the lymph vessels and lymph nodes in the lymph drainage pathways of the breast. It is easily confused with inflammatory breast cancer, which must be ruled out before treating the breast lymphedema. Ask your physician for a referral to a qualified and certified lymphedema therapist for evaluation and treatment. See "breast_lymphedema_for_therapists.pdf" on my LymphActivist's web site for more information at www.lymphactivist.org.
