5-year anniversary

I woke up yesterday from nightmares of needing more surgery and implants and feeling completely out of control to realize that it was the 5-year anniversary of my DCIS diagnosis. That dark day was followed by months of confusing choices, 2 lumpectomies, a bilateral mastectomy, and several reconstructive surgeries that included a re-do for Lefty in 2015. Along the way, I have learned a lot about myself, my amazing friends and family, and more medical research than I ever hoped to learn. It still scares me to death to examine my breasts, and I still need to continue to change my daily habits to reduce recurrence risk, but I am so thankful to be 5 years out with no further issues. Knocking on wood and wishing the best for all going through this crazy time.
