I went today for my 6 month follow up from a previous (first) mammogram/ultrasound about 8 months ago. I ended up having a biopsy for that one back in june of last year. Today, I had the mammogram/ultrasound..when they did the ultrasound, she kept taking pictures and going out,and ended up bringing the radiologist back in the 3rd time. He said I had a few new things that had popped up from last time and that I needed to come back in 6 months for another follow up. He didnt say anything about what they were or what they posibly could be. Im not too worried but when I was walking out, I asked one of the ladies if I could have a copy of my radiology report from today. She said that will be sent to my dr. So...do I get the report from my dr or what??

Request a copy of your mammos/USs on a CD from the Radiology Facility. It is your right to have copies of all tests/scans/etc. for your files/future need.

The radiology REPORT is a written document that the radiologist dictates, and is given to your primary care doctor or gynecologist--whatever doctor you indicate should receive a copy of the report. It's also kept at the facility that did the mammogram/ultrasound, and you can request a copy of the document from the facility directly. After the mammogram or ultrasound, It takes a few days to create the report.

Copies of the actual examination images are available to copy onto a CD, and you can get your own CD to take for second opinions or just to keep in your own files. It would probably be helpful if you requested CD copies of the exams a day or two afterward, so they have time to make your disc.

Call ahead of time and you can pick up both the written report and CD at the front desk of the imaging facility.

If you want to get your REPORT from your doctor's office, give them a call and tell them what you want. They'll make you a copy. Most of the time they won't fax or email it--you have to pick it up in person.
