Weakened immune system?

Options

Had my lumpectomy last June, followed by 6 weeks of whole breast radiation. Didn't need chemo and decided against hormone therapy. Then had ovaries and tubes removed this past January, which came back lcean.

This past Monday I came down with the worst stomach bug ever. Became so dehydated I had to spend two nights in the hospital, probably went thru 10 IV bags altogether. But today I am still feeling quite weak and tired. And have to rest even after the simplest chores.

Any thoughts on why this is hanging on so long?

Hi there. Not sure but I had a BMX and for a year following I had numerous bacterial and viral infections. I attributed it to major surgery and lymph node removal. The second year post surgery I did better. Good luck...

Thanks for this. Makes sense given I've had two surgeries in the past year. And this one in January while it was done laparoscopically, they had me under almost 3 hours as I also had a (benign) cyst the size of a lemon in there.

I'm starting to suspect I have viral meningitis, which while not life threatening like the bacterial kind, can cause some very unpleasant symptoms and hang on for a while. I also read it tends to strike in people who have weakened immune systems, which is why I started this thread.

And just found this link: http://www.breastcancer.org/tips/immune/cancer/sur...

If I may ask, how many lymph nodes did you have removed, and did any have cancer?

Jenn - rest & relax. See if you can get them to give you some anxiety meds if that's still a problem. Check your blood work to make sure everything's balanced. Example - maybe you need iron but don't start taking anything w/o talking to your docs at this point. It all takes time.
