Hi everyone,

Had my Diagnostic mammogram done today and the radiologist said he thinks it looks benign. But they want to follow me for the next 18 months with mammograms done every 6 months x 3. To see if it changes and if I notice any changes at all to let my PCP know immediately. It's very small lateral right breast down n deep. Husband's still a little worried about the diagnosis and the fact that they want to watch it for 6 months. So we'll see now we play the waiting game. Any thoughts? Ideas?

Oh must add that they are microcalcifications and they looked on previous mammograms dating back to 2011 with no sign of this on any of them. Plus any of the reasons for benign microcalcifications I've ruled out except arterial calcifications.

"Most likely benign" means they believe it has a less than 3% chance of being anything to worry about and therefore biopsy is not recommended.

M1958:  The only thing I might mention is getting an ultra sound especially if you are young and fit.  I had twice yearly mammograms for years to follow an area of calcification that really didn't seem to change much.  My nurse practitioner finally sent me for an ultrasound realizing that I had extremely dense breasts.  Following the ultrasound they immediately did a core needle biopsy that confirmed a malignancey.

i had a mammogram last week...was called back ...had a diagnostic mammogram this past Wednesday...no untrasound...I have micrco clusters...3 in left breast..2 in left...was told benign birads 3 with 6 month follow up...cancer runs rapid in my family...2 breast cancers...1 lung...2 salavia gland cancer...i worry some but i keep occupied ...they did no biopsy on none and usually do not in birads 3...if they do too many biopsies they can leave scar tissue that can cover cancer...so that is understandable...Going to speak with my PCD on Tuesday about it at my appt. Do not worry most are benign with .03 to 2 % chance of them being cancerous. It is understandable to have anxiety...i already have anxiety problems...but im keeping my head up. Hope you do very well..and everything will be ok. :)

Call backs do cause anxiety for sure! Im working on my third all with my right breast. I go tomorrow for ultrasound for a new nodule they say is most likely benign. We shall see. Nervous but starting to get used to it. Prayers we all get benign results!

I had a colleague who had at least 10 breast mammo call backs, and she NEVER got a breast biopsy, let alone any breast cancer or increased risk diagnosis.
