Post Taxol Swelling
I finished my last of 8 Taxol treatments (stopped due to neuropathy) on Dec. 12th. My upper arms and ankles are still swelled and heavy. Anyone have this experience? It's frustrating. My ankles hurt all the time and none of my tops want to fit my arms! 😩 I wake up swelled in my ankles and then it seems to subside a bit. Then, in the evening, it's back! It is manageable, but I wonder if it's commin

Kris - you are at risk for lymphedema. Please talk to your doc and get a referral to a CERTIFIED lymphedema PT. This link may help you find someone in your area and give you more information. It was written in collaboration with several of our BCO members. There are also good LE information threads on the BCO main site.

Of course it could be something else and I would definitely make an appointment with your doc. It's been over 2 months.

Thank you for responding! I have been seeing a lymphedema specialist. She works with my left arm which is where I had lymph nodes removed. I just saw her a couple weeks ago. There was no concern at that time

Kris - I would make another appointment with the LE/PT since you already have a contact. Did they do a baseline measurement? I have breast & truncal LE. If they took serial nodes on the other side, you are at risk on that other side too.
Also go ahead and call your doc. Two months is a long time for all this swelling.

Yes, she has taken baseline measurements and then measures my arms each time I go.
I will definitely make a call to my oncologist tomorrow about the swelling!
Thanks,
Kristi

Kristi - hope it's something easy like water retention. Do let us know.

My last Taxol treatment was the end of July. I had 12 treatments plus 4 AC. I have had feet and ankle swelling for months. Also some neuropathy. My feet hurt and burn with the swelling. Tonight my fingers feel tight so I can tell they are swollen. My MO gave me some fluid pills that really don't help. They keep saying it will go away now that I'm off chemo but so far they are no better. Then only thing better is some of the leg pain has stopped. I sleep with my feet up on a wedge at night and they are normal in the morning but swell again as soon as I sit or stand.
