Found a lump last week, waiting for a biopsy to be scheduled
My name is Jess. I will be 24 next month. Last week while taking a shower I notice a lump on the top of my right breast. I've never noticed it before, however it is not small. My doctor sent me to have an ultrasound done, and I expected the results in a couple days. To my surprise, I got them right then and there. I knew this wasn't a cyst because it is not round or oval. It is also very hard. I have some medical knowledge so I had a general idea of what to look for on the screen, but I wasn't seeing what I expected to see. I asked the tech if she saw the mass, she said she could definitely feel it, but she needed the radiologist to look at it before anything could be said about it. She brings him in and he confirms that it's not a cyst. He then tells me that the mass has no definitive edges and it's too dense for the ultrasound waves to see it clearly. And there is obviously some signs of abnormal tissue. I'm now waiting on a core needle biopsy to be scheduled. Anyone have anything similar to this? What was the outcome or diagnosis? Any info is helpful and appreciated.

Jess5377, really sorry that you are going through this. You are very young, and we really hope that this is all benign (nothing to worry about!)! The biopsy will give clarity. Please keep us posted!

Oh goodness, Jess. This doesn't sound good at all. I hope this turns out to be some benign something. You're so young to have to worry about this!

Jess, most "suspicious" Bi-Rads 4 areas turn out to be benign-better than 80% of them, and the fact that you are twenty-three makes it even more likely that it will be. Hang in there.

Jess
Was a mammogram done that day also or just the ultrasound. Was this a breast imaging center or a general radiology department? The biopsy is the correct thing to do in light of the report.
-
Just the ultrasound. Had it done at the hospital.
-
From what I read about bi rads if the 'mass' is palpable that increases the chances by 30-40%. I don't know how true that is.

just stopping in to say, hoping it is benign, your age does make it more likely to be...with that said, it doesn't make the wait any easier. Please let usknow.

Hi Jess - I also found a lump, went to my PCP who sent me to the breast imaging center for an ultrasound. The radiologist came in after I was done with the U/S. He had reviewed it and said the area looked suspicious and wanted me to do a biopsy the same day. They sent me to get a baseline mammogram done while they prepped the room for the needle core biopsy. So about 40 minutes later, I was back in the same room having the U/S guided biopsy done. The radiologist called the next day with the results that the cells he biopsied were cancerous. Once I got the report the following week, I found that they had assessed the mass as a BIRADS 5 on the U/S report - hence the urgency to have it biopsied right away.
I sure hope that yours turns out benign - please keep us updated on the biopsy.

Yeah considering they weren't that urgent in getting the biopsy done the same day, I'm sure that means they weren't super concerned. It doesn't make the wait any easier, but the biopsy has now been scheduled. It's Wednesday morning at 10:30 am. I'm hoping to have the results by Friday so I'm done with the waiting game. Lol. Thank you for telling me how yours went

Biopsy was done this morning, we will have the results Friday. I'm still feeling very positive, which is nice. My boob just hurts. Lol

Hoping B9 results come quickly for you Jess!
-
Jess - I am sending you good vibes for benign results too!!
-
Update: I now will not have the results until sometime Monday. This is frustrating.
