Safest Place to Have Surgery - introduction

This is my first time on this topic. I am still in neoadjuvant chemo. I saw my breast surgeon today. I have opted for a double mastectomy. My involved breast is Very involved, they can't save the nodes or the nipple. I get to save both on my non-involved side.

So apparently I can have this surgery in the local hospital and stay overnight or I can have this at my health center and do it as out-patient surgery. I am most concerned about not getting an infection. I can't really chose the hospital, I get the local OK hospital.

I plan on hiring a private nurse for the first 2 shifts whether I am in patient or out-patient. Can anyone speak to the safety from infection from staying overnight or doing out-patient.

I've been sick for 3 weeks (during chemo) with one or more viruses that have been worse than the chemo, but I'm starting to get better now. I had to postpone one chemo for a week. I am about 2 months away from surgery as this point and have not met with the plastic surgeon yet. But they are going to call soon about scheduling, so I need to pick a location.

Thank you
