Hi all. I was recently diagnosed with ILC. Initially they said the size was 3mm n now they're saying 1.9cm after an MRI. they also found another suspicious area in the same breast. However they couldn't find it on a mammo with contrast nor US. So I'm scheduled for MRI guided biopsy. If this turns out to be cancerous, am I looking at mastectomy? The second one is 9mm in size. The first is at 12:00 n second 3:00. Also is it normal to see something on MRI n not on anything else? I was kinda shocked to learn about the size difference too. Sorry. This is all so new to me...

    Hi

ILC is difficult to see on mammograms or ultrasounds and sometimes even MRI because it's growth pattern is so diffuse (like a frond) rather than a solid mass. ILC also tends to present itself as multi-focal (i.e. more than one tumours in one area) or multi-centric (tumours in more than one area of the same breast). If the area/tumours are small enough you should still be able to do lumpectomy, if it's too big they will either try to shrink it with neo adjuvant chemo (chemo before surgery) and then do lumpectomy or you may need to do mastectomy. Truly all dependent on what is found. Hopefully the tumours will be small and easily removed by lumpectomy. There is a thread for ILC, you will get more info there.
