A week after radiation and I'm having horrible pains...

I had radiation treatment for 6 weeks Monday thru Friday two times and day and though it wasn't painful at first it is very painful now that I am finished.My skin is starting to peel and blister and I'm having sharp pains frequently...My nurse prescribed my hydrocodone and ibuprofen but it only eases the pain for so long...My main concern is that the pain won't stop and I won't be able to get reconstruction...I also thought i was ready to go back to work but idk anymore

Hi, DrenaJ. I am sorry that you're having pain. I also had pain after rads, both from damaged skin and deeper pain in my chest. My nurses gave me gel dressings to cover my open wounds; they helped immensely. That, plus hydrocodone for the last week of rads and the week following. I had pain in my chest that felt like a terrible pulled muscle, but that went away after about a week. I still get occasional sharp twinges in my chest, but they are infrequent now. It does get better.

Drena - I would really contact your RO and let her know your concerns. Continuing pain could be an issue.

I had no issues during rads. However, the day after last rad the entire irradiated area was blistered. It kept getting worse and it was over 3 months til the deepest finally healed. Thankfully, the deepest burns were in an area that was numb after surgery. What finally healed it was Domoboro soaks.
