nipple grafts, biopsy nipple before Mastectomy?

My reconstructive surgeon called me tonight to ask me to come in to do a "small procedure" before my mastectony me on 2/28. The reason is he wants to test my nipple for cancer prior to the surgery as he says the pathology will not come back in time at the time of the actual surgery if he were to do it then. So he wants to do it now.

The purpose is because he would like to graft my nipples back on if they are cancer free. He says the procedure will "not be very painful" they will inject lidocaine into my areolacut my nipple and take a sample. More invasive than a core needle biopsy he says but should not hurt. Has anyone had this done? Did it hurt?
