Adoption after cancer

I was pregnant with our second child shortly before my diagnosis, but miscarried at 9 weeks. I don't think I took time to grieve because I thought we'd try again, but then I found out about my cancer and chemo was started quickly. Egg preservation was not recommended. I'm coming to terms with that, maybe. One of my Drs said no adoption agency would give a child to someone who has had cancer. Is this true? Is this one more thing taken from me? I was given an all clear in July and am on hormone therapy for the next 5 years

I think this is something you will have to research but that doctor has no basis for making such a blanket statement, probably off the top of his sorry head. In addition, you don't have to adopt through an agency, you can adopt privately. Minnesota has a very robust adoption community, I am sure you will find adoption options and reliable information sources. I have two adopted children, but did not have health issues at the time - however a blind friend was told she would not be able to adopt and she did and then proceeded to birth a child as well - and there was no one telling her then that she was incapable of caring for her daughters. Another adoptive mother was a brittle Type 1 diabetic. Go for it!!

I don't have an answer for you but I don't care for your doctor's attitude!
