Distention Mets -- Where do I go for a second opinion?

i've been on an incredible rollercoaster! My mid- chemo CT showed new liver and bone Mets where the last scan showed none. A more careful look at the old scan showed I did, indeed have them, even then. It looked like I was making progress since, but my blood antigens are way up.

I figure it's time for a second opinion. MD Anderson won't work with me unless I'm.entering a trial. Where would you go? I live in Michigan but I will be free to travel soon.

    I've been going there for 2nd opinion/consultations. In my opinion, they are more conservative in their approaches, e.g. the Dr I see is not a fan of liver targeted therapies such as RFA or y90 for liver Mets. Still, he is running a number of her2 and immunotherapy trials so I appreciate that a lot.

    Agree that the Dana Farber [much as I love them] is on the conservative side.

    NCI Cancer centers near you are University of Chicago, University of Michigan, Case Western in Cleveland. Mayo isn't far either.

    In defense of your radiologists, I found the same things with my scans. They declare it "fine", then the next scan when something appears, they look back and say "oh yeah, it was there". Basically it wasn't big enough to show up the first time, but then grows to be large enough to see. The previous scan was only a shadow. The good news is -- assuming your scans were six months apart -- your cancer isn't growing very fast.

    I should take a moment to thank all of you. I haven't done a thing. Life is so crazy, up in the air. I do have the bone mets, but not the liver. Nothing in the brain, either. But clearly, something new will come on the heels of the end of this therapy. I just hope the next one beats this into submission. When I figure out where my adult child will land in the future, I will likely find a qualified hospital there, and just move. One a good note: the radiologist thought I'd had a tumor excised because it disappeared. So, there's that -- and no brain mets, either.
