Anti-histamines for metastasis preventation

I hope this isn't a repetition of previous posts, but I have seen posts of people with bc who have used cimetidine.
This link was posted in an ILC fb page concerning anti-histamines and their anti-metastasis effects.

Please give cimetidine special consideration and possible avoidance per this quote from the article:
"There is some concern that Cimetidine has estrogenic properties. Given that Integrative practitioners recommend its use before, during and for up to 2 years after surgery, if you have breast cancer or prostate cancer, for example, this may be a concern.
Swedish researchers(1) looked at over 50,000 women who had ER+ Breast cancer and those who simultaneously took a second generation antihistamine. When comparing users with non-users a significant survival improvement was seen for the users of 30 per cent or more. Various antihistamines were compared and Desloratadine provided the best results; Loratadine was not far behind."
Desloratadine is prescribed, but loratadine goes by Claritin and OTC.

Hi there, does this mean that taking Claritin might have some beneficial effect on recurrence? It sounds like it. I take it every day to alleviate joint pain from aromasin....
-
Freaky! Thanks for posting.
-
Clair, sounds like you get double the benefit!
Yes, it works to make the cancer cells less sticky so less able to adhere to other cells or each other.
I hope that word of this gets out to rad pathologists that perform core biopsies. According to the article, it is most effective before and after surgeries involving the cancer.

Claire, does the Claritin really help your joint pain? Does it need to be the real deal or will generic work?
-
I found Claritin to give great relief to joint & bone pain from Neulasta shots. It has to be regular Claritin and not the "D" pill. I did not try generic since I wanted to give it my best 'shot' up front. I took the pills from one day before the treatment to 5 days after. Wouldn't it be something if it also fights BC.

I found that the generic, lorataidine, was just as effective as name brand Claritin in keeping the bone pain from Arimidex in check. It didn't do a lot for joint pain for me.
Given that I just completed my 5 years on the AI, and concurrently stopped taking loratadine, I'm wondering if I should start taking it again (the loratidine, not the Arimidex).
-
I'm going to give the generic a try. If no results I'll spend 2-3x as much for the brand name and see if results differ. Thanks for all the feedback.

Kathy, if the loratadine does not produce any unwanted side effects, then continuing it probably will not hurt. They sell it in 300 count bottles for a reason.
If the side effects are a problem, then one baby aspirin every other day will also provide an anti-inflammatory/anti-sticky cell effect.
My main concern for starting the thread was to alert ER+ people that cimetadine was not recommended. :-)

Hi all, I missed adding this post to my favorites so I'm late in posting.
Hopeful8201, I buy the generic Wal-tin Walgreen's brand. I've been using it for so long, and I probably should stop for a couple of weeks to see if I still need it. I was on Arimidex for about 1.5 years till I said "enough"--side effects were awful--and swapped to Aromasin, which so far has been a non-event. Your post made me wonder if I still need to take loratadine for joint pain. It's so darned expensive. Why is that?

Do you or anyone reading this post have any information about antihistamine dosage to prevent cancer recurrence ?
Thanks in advance, Paula
