has anyone not had an Intraductal palpilloma removed? My surgeon didn't recommend removal, just followup MRI in 6 months which I have next Tuesday. Now that the MRI is next week I'm freaking out again..

Everything I've read says they're removed. My MRI guided biopsy said no aytipcal cells, but I've read that it can miss cells or develope cancer.

Although technically benign, the breast surgeons I have worked with recommend they all be removed due to a slight chance they can become cancerous.

I had one removed last year, but mine had atypical cells. My BS said he removes them regardless, becuase they can hide cancer cells. Luckily, mine came back benign after the excision, and no cancer cells were found. My BS said that all the atypical cells had been removed by the radilogist when I had the core needle biopsy, which is why nothing else was found once it was removed and sent to the lab. I have read that you have a greater chance of getting breast cancer if you have had an atypical result. Which is why I am freaked out today after finding a lump in my breast last night exactly one year after my last mamo and the lumpectomy for the papilloma. The papilloma was very small, only 2 mm, and could not be felt. This lump feels big and can be felt right under the skin, It is in a different location entirely than the papilloma and was not detected on last years mamo. I already had a mamo scheduled for tomorrow, when I felt this lump last night. I am praying this is not cancer.

I had two of these excised, one found on mammogram & another after I started having bloody drainage from my nipple. After these excisions I discovered a lump in my other breast which was determined to be invasive lobular carcinoma. I opted for a BLM & not surprisingly, another papilloma was found in the other breast. My surgeon then told me recurrent papillomas can indicate cancer development. I'm glad both breasts are gone! Nothing but trouble... papillomas are usually benign but definitely need to be taken out
