Hello ladies,

I have my pre-op appointment with my reconstructive surgeon on Monday 1/23 re: my direct implant reconstruction after unilateral skin sparing, nipple sparing mastectomy.

Are there any important questions I should ask my surgeon re: my one step reconstruction? I am assuming he will measure me and we will talk about which implant type and size is best to match my other breast.

He told me he will be using Exparel anesthetic which will hopefully make my recovery easier.

For those that have been through this, please let me know if there is anything really important I should ask in my pre-op appointment.

Thank you! :)

LoveandLightin - I know there are some ladies who have had the one step reconstruction. I am not one so I can't answer your questions, but I hope everything goes well. Someone else with one-step will see your post, but it tends to be more quiet on the weekends.

LoveandLightn, how did it go with the PS? I am having a bilateral mastectomy on 2/24. My doctor has told me I am a candidate for nipple sparing and skin sparing as well. This means I could go with the one step straight to implants. I still haven't decided what I am going to do. My PS told me I will be a little smaller than i am today but mostly I will have a shape change. Currently I'm more cone shaped and after will be wider and a little flatter. I don't want to be smaller but don't want to go the TE route either. I would love to hear what your PS said. I'm currently a smaller 38C

Implants are wider & flatter, whatever the process is. If you want more projection, I think you will have to go with TEs to expand the skin gradually & eventually fit in larger implants.
