my wife has retro peritoneal nodes and liver mets and has been drained twice in 10 days (2 Ltr each time) and she is under WBR so MO tells us that he can't treat liver mets and peritoneal nodes now as it would be too toxic on body. My query 1)How do I know that the ascites needs to be drained ? 2)Since she failed on Femera after 10 months ,will the ascites keep on building till the.new treatment kicks in? NOTE-ASCITES FLUID CYTOLOGY SHOWS THAT IT ISNOT MALIGN

    Many -

Before we can chime in with our non-professional opinions, we should probably know more about her treatment history and her cancer pathology.

Here's what I know (and it is not a lot): most people have chemo suspended during and after radiation. I think the doctors are worried about toxicity levels, but I am not sure. I think that most folk recommence chemo after healing up from radiation - if they need chemo, of course.

I think that ascites are drained on an "as needed" basis. Those who do it frequently might have regular intervals between treatments because their medical team has gotten to know their rhythm. If they are focusing on brain mets/WBR, it is likely that the ascites will continue until they are addressed by treatment.

Don't be blue about the Femara failure. A lot of us have experienced it, and we move on to other treatments. It is how this game is played.

I hope she is feeling OK, and that you are holding up. It is very hard to see your spouse ill. I think I have the easier role, being the sick one. Well, it might not be easier, but it is more defined.
