Fibroadenoma, but still a little concerned.

Had the diagnostic mammogram after my regular one showed something. They also did an ultrasound. The person who looked at the pictures and ultrasound results seemed confident that it is just a fibroadenoma and I'm to return in six months for another mammogram. I hadn't ever heard of them, so I've now done my research and am curious if fibroadenomas and cancer look so starkly different that he can with confidence say it's a fibroadenoma. What I've learned is that I'm a little old to have one. I'm 48. I'm sure without a biopsy you can't be 100% certain or can you? I suppose if fibroadenomas have very distinct characteristics, then maybe I need to relax and not worry. Does anybody know?

Hi Rhonda0807, Sorry for what you are going through! Not sure that this will be helpful, but maybe read here (phyllodes and fibroadenomas). If you are not completely comfortable with the results, you may want to seek out second opinion, or make an appointment to have the doctor who prescribed the ultrasound to go over your concerns.

hi Rhona, I would think that the professolionals would know the difference between fibro adenoma and BC. One has smoother boarders than the other but for sure ask for a biopsy, that's the 100% way of knowing. I had a fibro adenoma and had ultrasound and a biopsy to confirm it and then ultrasound follow up for 6 months and then yearly after that. My BC was in a different section of my fibro adenoma and the fibro adenoma was the same at my dx.

Please ask for a biopsy to have 100% certainty.

Thank you for your comments. I think I won't feel at ease unless I get a biopsy.
