Wiegp, what type of chemo are you on? You might use the search mechanism -- there are threads for each chemotherapy with tips and tricks.

What side effects are you having the most problems with? First and foremost, be honest with your onc. In some cases, you may need your dose tweaked, but in many instances, there are all sorts of options -- from different/better nausea meds (we don't all respond to the same ones), to natural or complementary things, such as ginger for the nausea. But do let us know what you're dealing with so that we can be more specific! Hugs, Deanna

I had a lot of side effects after 1st treatment especially severe heartburn redness from steroids mouth sores nausea my onco lowered dose of taxatere gave me Prilosec and that really helped, heartburn gone and side effects less chew on ice chips during chemo helped with mouth sores, any other info would help and thank you, I really appreciate the hel

Weigp22, I had Taxol, a drug in the same family as Taxotere. Prilosec was given to me in the pre-meds before every infusion.

Protect your skin and nails from the sun while you are on chemo.

Mouth sores: For pain, ask for a prescription for Magic Mouthwash which contains benadryl, maalox, and lidocaine. To aid healing, rinse with a mixture of 8 oz warm water, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, 1/8 teaspoon salt.

After your infusion, drink lots of water to flush it out of your system. My nurse explained that the drug has already done its job on cancer cells, and letting it stay in your system just increases side effects.

Talk to the chemo nurses. They may have good information and tips for you, and can also communicate with the doctor on your behalf.
