Waiting for MRI
Hello,
Little back story..2013 I had a surgical biopsy. Had some changes in the cells. So they did mammograms every six months. Exactly a year later the same thing popped up in same breast. Again more surgery. Same thing.
I've had benign mammograms since until two weeks ago. This time the other breast. Radiologist couldn't complete her report and scheduled me for MRI. I have a history for a year of a sudden retracted nipple. On mammogram it has pulled in even more and changes behind the nipple. Also have very dense breast tissue. I go next week for MRI. I of course am worried. Trying not to think about it. Has anyone had a retracted nipple and been sent for a MRI? How did it turn out?
Thanks for reading..

Thought I would proved an update if anyone cared. My results came back and I have two 7 mm nodules. Weird thing is is that they are not near the nipple. They are sending me for a MRI guided biopsy.
-
Hi SierraLeigh, I read, but didn't answer your previous post as I have no history of retracted nipple and thought someone else would answer your post. I am so sorry you are here, and waiting is the absolute worst. When is your MRI guided biopsy scheduled?
-
I'm waiting for the imaging center to call me. Surgeon said it would be today. Trying to keep positive! Thanks for responding.
-
We will wait with you. ((hug))

I hope this is allowed, if not please delete. I have obtained my MRI report and wanted an opinion. Next week i should get my appt for the biopsy. This in my right breast. My left is fine. I am know that 80% of masses are benign which relieves me! I am hopeful and keeping positive. I am 31 which is young and the odds are good. Here's the report:
There is at least a moderate degree of retroareolar ductal
ectasia without suspicious enhancement. There is intraductal high signal
with T1 weighting fat saturated sequencing which would indicate blood and/or
proteinaceous fluid. Superiorly and slightly laterally, there is a nodular
focus of enhancement measuring 0.6 cm transversely x 0.7 cm in AP diameter x
0.7 cm in craniocaudal length. The surrounding margins are irregular. This
demonstrates strong initial contrast enhancement with plateau in the
post-initial signal intensity curve which is considered Type II
(indeterminate) kinetics. Distance from the nipple is 5.5 cm.There is a second nodular focus of enhancement in the lower outer quadrant
more posteriorly which measures 0.5 cm transversely x 0.7 cm in AP diameter
x 0.4 cm in craniocaudal length. The surrounding margins are slightly
irregular. This demonstrates strong initial contrast enhancement with
continuous increase in post-initial signal intensity curve which is
considered Type I kinetics. This lies approximately 6 cm posterior from the
nipple.
There is no skin thickening. There is a mild degree of parenchymal edema
which is seen predominantly in association with ductal ectasia. No
suspicious lymph nodes are seen in the axilla or along the internal mammary
chain.Impression:
Moderate degree of retroareolar ductal ectasia with ducts containing blood
and/or proteinaceous fluid based on signal intensity. No enhancing mass is
seen posterior from the nipple.
Nodular focus of enhancement in the upper outer quadrant near 10-11 o'clock
approximately 5.5 cm posterior from the nipple which has been measured in
the sagittal plane. This is considered suspicious based on morphology and
kinetics.
Second nodular focus of enhancement in the lower and slightly outer quadrant
near 7-8 o'clock, approximately 6 cm posterior from the nipple measured in
the sagittal plane. Morphology is considered more suspicious than kinetics. Thanks for looking

I go January 30th for the biopsy. Will be a MRI guided.

I don't know what your pathology report means, but I'm well acquainted with waiting and being afraid.
Best of luck to you with your biopsy. I hope all turns out ok.

Thankso! Waiting is the worst 😔

Update
The billing office at the imaging center messed up so they scheduled me for the 21st. My doctor was not happy about it! Tomorrow I go in for an ultrasound guided biopsy in hopes they can see the nodules. If they cannot we will wait for the mri one.Is it standard that they ask for you not to eat or drinking after midnight and to give you "loopey" medication before hand for the biopsy?
-
Interesting, my ultrasound guided biopsy happened on the spot with no problems. I wonder if because your suspicious area is deep they anticipate some pain. I will be in your pocket as we say around here.
-
I'm totally confused by it. I had a fine needle biopsy in 2012 and it wasn't painful. Maybe that's the reason, because it's deep.
-
Sierra,
I will be thinking of you tomorrow. I hope everything goes well. I have my biopsy on Thursday. My mass is mid-level and I have been told to eat before so I do not have a low, blood sugar incident. I bet it is because your's is deeper.
Best wishes,
Angela

Just got out of the hospital. Had the ultrasound and they couldn't see the nodules. I go in for the mri biopsy the 21st. Seems so far away...I'm trying not to stress but I am.
-
Had my MRI biopsy today. Had complications with bleeding so we only got one of the areas. Radiologist thinks it maybe Lobular cancer? I'll post the results when I get them. I have an anxiety disorder and have been having a hard time with all of this! I have three kids and am only 31. I am blessed to have a good support system though.
-
Sierraleigh, hope everything turns out ok. I also have 3 kids, I'm 39 years old and I know how scary all this is.Glad you have a good support system. Thinking of you out and hoping for good results...

Thanks!

any news?

They had to biopsy both of the spots. They hit an artery trying to get the more suspicious one. I bled a lot and have a hematoma. But they got the other one and the path was usual hyperplasia, fibrocystic breast disease and ductal ectasia. I go back in 6 months to do the other one. They said they can not see it on the scan because all the blood blocking it. I didn't know it would do that. So more waiting but at least I know one is benign!! Gives me hope. :-)
-
That is wonderful! Sorry about the hematoma though!
