Onco Type Question

Hello All, I am 2 weeks out of my right mastectomy and lymph node dissection.  Met w my BS and she advised I am Stage II, and my Onco Score was 23.  She said this is a grey-ish results meaning on the fence w treatment options.  Waiting on oncologist to review and set up apt, but wanted to know if others had a similar score and diagnosis and if chemo is always recommended in addition to radiation and hormonal treatment?

Thanks for any info on this!

Happy Holidays to all the fighters and survivors!

No I don't think it is always recommended for a score of 23. But with node involvement even though you may be post menopausal they might fall back on knocking down a bunch of bad cells. But AI drugs are proving to be very effective for hormone positive cancers. I personally feel less potential harm on them than chemo. Also getting 5 years of treatment seems like a good idea. I had ILC and IDC did left mastectomy and DIEP. My right side is fine I believe in the hormone therapy. But it too can have permanent health related effects.

You could maybe ask for a mammoprint or the symphony-test.

Also what concerns me is if you do chemo and hormone therapy there may be a considerable delay in starting hormone therapy. I don't have a good feeling about that, I am glad I start almost immediately on antihormone.

The fact that your tumor was grade 3 and you had 2 nodes involved they may recommend chemo. I was stage II also, but grade 1 with 1 node positive. I also had LVI. I did do chemo as recommended by my onc (almost wrote vet ha ha ha). I am glad I did - it gives me peace of mind and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. No, it wasn't fun and I hated losing my hair, but I feel I have done everything to keep this beast away.

Sometimes women with the dreaded middle range Oncotype score get another test, the Mammoprint, to help them decide. If I'd had a mid range oncotype score, I would definitely have wanted to get at least 2 oncologists' opinions (actually even with a low score and a positive node, I still got a second opinion about chemo) or have my case presented to a tumor board before making a decision, and if possible have the mammoprint test done. IMO the more you know, the easier it is to make good treatment choices.

    Hi

I was in the gray area--- so I got opinions from my surgeon and my onc--two different hospitals.... and went with 4 rounds of chemo..... plus radiation and hormonal therapy.... over 8 years ago now..... tough decision-but I sleep very well at night!

    good luck--happy holidays.

I had my BMX on November 16th and no Mamoprint results yet. How long does it take? I am almost done with my expanders??

OG, I didn't get the mamma-print but my onco and BRCA test both took about 3 wks. If you don't have it soon, you should probably make some phone calls.
