Does anyone know if MEDICARE will pay for 2 breast MRI's yearly. I had triple negative breast cancer 7 years ago. I will NOT have anymore mammograms. Just want to know if 2 MRI's will be covered by Medicare???

Medicare won't answer definatively when I call.

Any info greatly appreciated, thank u.

Rehtaeh - I think it will depend on how the docs bill Medicare. And what the diagnosis & prognosis are.

Medicare has no problem paying for two CT scans a year for me - at least up to 5 years - but I'm not going to do that many. Why would you want two MRIs a year unless the first one shows a definite problem?

    Thank u, Minus Two.

The hospital where I got treatment says I need to alternate mammo and MRI each 6 mos. Now would be the mammo time. I will no longer have a mammo (long story). Hospital says their 'protocal' always requires mammos. So, i got a written prescription for an MRI from my primary doctor. . I'm scheduled for the MRI at the hospital but I'm worried that Medicare may not pay?

    And thanks for ur response.
