Zometa

I've recently been diagnosed with Stage IV after battling hodgekins and breast cancer in previous years. They started me on treatment right away one being Zometa. The first day was no issue. I have been drinking a ton of water. Yesterday I all but loss use of my legs due to pain and what feels like pulled tendons. Today the pain has lessened. Has anyone else had these issues? I'm told this is common and that next time it won't be as bad. Any suggestions are welcome

    The first Zometa infusion is a doozy. There will be muscle aches and joint pain, maybe some fever. Keep pushing the fluids. The good news is that these reactions are usually confined to the first infusion only.

    If the pain persists for more than about four days, call your medical team. In the meantime, if you have access to pain relief medication, use it! Heating pads also helped me. And, keep drinking fluids.

    What blainejennifer said x2.

    Normally the muscle aches are not as bad as you describe, but they do [normally] go away after the first infusion. Or you can have them give the infusion over 30 minutes rather than 15. That helps those who get bad aches.

    Thank you! After day three I was back up and more myself. I think the 30 min vs the 15 min will be the way to go

    Yes! Slow drip*, and the big bag of fluids**. I'm one of the VERY few that still have "Zometa Flu" after the infusion, and these tricks have kept it to a low roar after treatment.

    * 45 minutes, because I am a delicate flower

    ** a full liter. Yes, I do have to use the restroom a bunch afterwards. Don't make plans for after treatment that take you too far from the facilities.
