Thyroid metastasis?
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone had a metastasis to their thyroid? I know it's very rare.
It's something when you're hoping for Thyroid cancer.
I've known something was up for ages as I've been feeling very unwell and have lots of different symptoms. There are too many variables in this puzzle. As far as I can tell - thyroid cancer wouldn't have made my CA 15-3 tumour markers rise. So if this is Thyroid cancer - I will still have to wait it out to find out if my TNBC has progressed to Stage 4 too. I haven't properly had feedback from my CT scans - but now booked for US and biopsy.
I'm pretty miffed with my GPs right now (have 2). I had to fight to get my swallowing problem checked and I'm still waiting for that to get properly investigated. Constantly told it was "acid reflux" - it wasn't - I have extra waves which are causing problems moving food into my stomach. Was totally ignored when I said my mouth was causing me problems as I can't get rid of burning tongue, fur and it turning yellow. (I was told not to worry - imagining it - can't see anything. I had to take pictures.) And that I could suddenly lose weight - when I have struggled for years (multi-nodal goitre.) The tiredness. What's puzzling too, is my thyroid blood tests came back normal.
And I'd not have had a CT scan if I hadn't gone and got my own blood tests done which were "High". (UK - didn't like that I did that.) So if I hadn't done this - no one would have noticed that one of my thyroid nodules has suddenly tripled in size and looks suspicious.
Trust your own judgement if you think something's wrong. I actually wish I had pushed those GPs even harder - I feel they have really let me down.
Fingers crossed.

Let us know what you find out. Thyroid issues are very common after breast cancer treatment, but it also could be swollen nodes in the neck. When is your ultrasound

I had suspected thyroid mets but they never biopsied to confirm as I had extensive bone and lung mets as well. As it responded to chemo along with the rest of my mets I guess that possibly confirms it.
However I didn't have any symptoms relating to my thyroid.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes

Thursday...
Last week I thought I'd know what's going on when I got my CT results back - but no... I think there is still going to be a lot of "watchful waiting". If I ever make it out past 5 years with this - I shall look back and want to know that I haven't let this rule my life (it is right now).
I've distracted myself with meeting up with friends through the week so I'm not focusing on that. Rogue One today - can't wait.
Have a good week.

Well another test done and no further along. Which is a good thing - but I don't get that sense of relief.
Enlarged nodules - though I do have many more of them - a lot more. One was a little granular but small and he didn't want to biopsy it. He said otherwise it had the characteristics of being benign. I do think my thyroid is showing signs of stopping working now.
However - whilst it seems like a massive release - still having progressively rising tumour markers constantly eats away at my mind.
I've managed to forget about it a bit over Christmas and had gone for drinks with friends and just at home over the holidays which makes me really angry at myself as I had stopped drinking at the beginning of the year to reduce my chances of a recurrence.
I know I shouldn't beat myself up - but it's this horrid disease. Finding our 'new normals' and living with them is a continual work in progress.
So now the wait to find out what's being going wrong with my esophagus, trying to get treatment for my arthritis and more tumour markers tests. And I Still haven't seen my CT report - so I do hope "it's fine".
Hope everyone is having some good times with their friends and families.

I am sorry you are having so many challenges--I just wanted to mention that at the 5 year mark post bc, I was dx with thyroid cancer--- I literally had been "sick" from December-May--started out with a cough, felt like bronchitis-no one could figure it out, but my body kept giving me signals. I had never had a "bad" thyroid test-numbers were always in the right range--- finally ended up with a ct scan that showed nodules--- and once they said that 95% of those were benign, I just knew--my luck in this area has not been great!. Anyway, they biopsied and it came back papillary (very low level). So, surgery and RAI--it was not horrible and I am pretty healthy now.
But what I remember, and you mentioned this, was a difficulty swallowing, hoarseness and constant coughing. I don't know what might be causing your numbers to go up, but if you can have the nodule biopsied, it might help get to the bottom of your problem with swallowing--even a benign nodule can create problems....
Good luck
