Results with Letrozole

I have been on Letrozole for 3 years for mets to the liver.

The initial CT scan showed innumerable lesions in my liver with the largest one 18mm.

After taking Letrozole for several months, the CT scans showed that the lesions had stopped

growing and were not multiplying. And I would get the same report every 6 months when

I had a CT scan.

But yesterday, my doctor shocked me with these results - no evidence of metastatic disease was seen in my liver!

Has this ever happened to any of you?

Does it mean that it's really gone?

Or just hiding out waiting to strike somewhere else?

This is a fantastic result!! I would bring out the champagne. I took letrozole for 4 and a half years and that helped keep me with no evidence of disease (NED) for almost nine years now. Cancer may still make a comeback as it can with even early stagers, but this could take a while and in the meantime you have your life back. Enjoy it!

Why did you stop taking Letrozole?

Adryankin - When I first got into this mess, my naturopath mentioned that there are women who do nothing and go into remission. It was his way of admitting that we don't know what drives an individual cancer and it was really up to me how to proceed.

I spent the evening reading about emerging research into the gut biome and cancer. A change in your gut biome can tip the delicate balance in your immune system and suddenly ... your immune system recognizes and removes the cancer. That is as good an explanation as any for what happened to you.

I would take a moment and think about any changes you made in your lifestyle or diet in the last 3 months. Some happy accident in your body chemistry and function has worked to your favor. It may or may not be something you did, but it's worth considering.

And I would celebrate, but maybe not with champagne.

Side effects. I felt I had to switch to something else already, I asked my onc about it and he agreed. Switched to Tamoxifen, then Arimidex, then back to Tamoxifen.

Good advice from Zarovka. But it also could have been just the effect of a long-term decline in estrogen. No one can really say.
