Phyllode tumor?

7 months ago I detected a lump, was screened, had a mammogram and ultrasound showing a tumor. A core needle biopsy said it was a fibroadenoma.

This week I had my follow up appt and my tumor has grown significantly, doubling in size. I am being sent for a surgical biopsy. My new results said rapid growth with cellular stroma. Highly vascular tumor. BIRAD 4. Anyone experience a fibroadenoma turned phyllode? What importance does the rapid growth and highly vascular tumor play in this whole thing?

Ive also been experiencing pain mostly in my hips and legs for a month. I thought I was just getting old and creaky, but now wondering if I've got a bunch of inflammation going on? It doesn't feel like muscle soreness or strain. It feels like my bones.

I was told a year ago not to worry after a biopsy. Then a six month follow up same story. In October I had rapid tumor growth and had it removed. Went from 2cm to 7cm in a few weeks. Pathology report is Malignant Phyllodes Tumor w/Stromal Overgrowth and Heterologous Elements. Just had a chest and pelvic scan--negative. Going back in for more surgery. They want to take a wider margin and then going for radiation.

That is good news about a negative chest and pelvic scan. I met my surgeon yesterday and they will remove the tumor and not worry about margins at this time. They'll go back for a second surgery if it is positive for phyllodes.

Hi Kitty2000! I just learned my "fiberadenoma" was a phyllodes, too. Haven't met for follow-up, yet. I am glad your scan was clear. I suspect your experiences will be in my future, too. Would like to learn of your outcome, if you wish to share.

Are we all in Cincinnati, because I said to my surgeon, "These are really rare right?" and her response was "Well I've seen a rash of them lately." That sounded reassuring...

Phyllodes tumors do that, that is the nature of the beast it seems. These things are so unpredictable and can grow at incredible rate. I have just been diagnosed with my third one in a year! Make sure they get clear margins but even if they do that is no guarantee that it will not return. I wish we had a better understanding of how to stop these things because personally I am sick and tired of having surgery, but there is nothing else I know to do. I hope all goes well with you and that once they remove it, it is gone forever.
