Terrified of first gyno appt year after starting tamoxifen

Hi there,

I have read several articles where women had uterine thickening due to tamoxifen after only a year of being on it. I have my first gyno appt Monday since being on tamoxifen for a little over a year. All of these women had to have a uterine biopsy and have told horror stories on how painful this procedure is. I would appreciate any response so that I can try to prepare myself just in case.

I was on it for almost two years, and gyn checkups were just fine the whole time. So, it may be fairly common to have issues, but not inevitable.

Hope yours is completely uneventful too!

I was on tamox for 5 years, - checkups were not a problem, I seem to remember having a biopsy before starting tamox so as to have a baseline in case future biopsies were needed (none were). It was not that uncomfortable.

I had a biopsy a few months back and I had no pain whatsoever - varies a great deal from person to person.

My biopsies didn't hurt anymore than a PAP.

Hmm.... it must really be different for each person, and I must be the outlier because it was horrible pain for me! Maybe it's a different type of uterine biopsy when it's done for infertility testing?

Just came from my appt and I didn't require a biopsy, yea!!! I was prepared tho. I took Advil and Ativan just in case. Thank you to those you replied for your support.
