Biotene toothpaste & mouthwash
Doc gave me some samples of the toothpaste and mouthwash. Has anyone else
tried this? He wants me to use it every day.

My son used these products a lot when he was growing up. He often got ulcers in his mouth and this helped, and the biotene also helped when he wore braces. He is now in his 20s and every once in awhile when he has some kind of flair up within his mouth, he will buy the Biotene and use it for a period of time. I am not sure your reason for using this brand, but I hope it helps you as well.

I used the mouth rinse several times a day. I developed a couple of mouth sores but nothing severe and they never lasted more than a day or two. I bought the Biotene toothpaste but never used it. I also had a prescription for the "magic mouth" rinse that is made with lidocaine and a few other ingredients. Luckily, I never needed to use it
I used a toothpaste I purchased from my dentist, one that contain more fluoride than normal toothpaste. It was recommended in case I threw up often as that can be very hard (acidic) on teeth. I never did becomethat ill, but still used the toothpaste.
You didn't mention any mouthwash, but I used an alcohol free mouthwash.
Good luck

I am also on A/A. We have a thread. I did get bad mouth sores. They told me to try those 2 things. They did not help mine go away. But at least with that toothpaste I was able to brush my teeth, which I couldn't do on normal toothpaste. It would set me on fire. I had to come off of Afinitor for a week to let them heal. I also started on dexamethasone and valtrex. My mouth sores took about 7 days to go away, I started back on Afinitor and kept taking the other 2 drugs too to help prevent that from happening again. I also still do the toothpaste. I figure anything to keep from that happening again, I will do. If you are not on the other 2 drugs I would highly recommend it. Wishing you the best

I been on the med for two weeks. How long does it take for the mouth sores to start?

I think everyone is different but mine came about halfway thru my 3rd week. I honestly don't know why they don't start you on the drugs when you start taking it. The internet says 80% of people have trouble with mouth sores. That is huge. I was miserable, I had them on my tongue, under my tongue and on cheeks. It got where I couldn't eat or drink, even water was like fire. I hope you will be in the lucky 20%. I honestly never want that to happen again. Best wishes to you.
