AHL and referral to oncology

First, thanks to all who are here, posting, sharing, reading...it is comforting to have community.

A needle biopsy revealed ALH and I'm going in for an excision biospsy Friday to rule out cancer. My primary care physician consulted with oncology when the initial pathology report came through to see if they recommended sending me in for a consult and they said it was not nessecary. When I met with the surgeon (not a BS, a general surgeon) he told me he would be making a referral to oncology regardless of the outcome of the biopsy because of the risk factor for ALH. I realize ALH increases my risks of developing cancer and I'm just wondering what other people's experiences are with ALH and referral to oncologists.

When Alh and Adh were discovered in an excisional biopsy my BS (who is also a general surgeon who specializes in breast surgery) sent me to see a genetic counselor. Due to my family history and the new findings, he gave me a 50% risk, and I opted for a PBM.

Thanks farmerlucy. I'll inquire about genetic testing. There's not really a family history, one great aunt, but it can't hurt to look into it.

does ALH stand for Atypical hyperplasia? If so,what does the L stand for?

L stands for lobular, as opposed to ductal.
