edited November 2016 in High Risk for Breast Cancer

Negative on everything (I was mostly concerned about BRCA 1/2)!

Turns out, it's either just bad luck or something they don't/can't test for that's caused all the breast cancer in other family members of mine, but--good news for me at least. :)

I don't regret having the prophylactic BMX prior to results as, genetics aside, there is still a really strong family history and I wouldn't have wanted to risk it anyway.

They found one mutation of "unknown significance" in my NF1 gene, which might explain some really small skin 'bumps' I've had near my right eye and on my right hand since I can remember, but even with that it's only a 7% increased risk of breast (and a few other) cancers and they're not even sure if my 'variance' is enough to call it a full on mutation, plus, I don't have breasts anymore anyway!
They're having the geneticist go over it next week and refer me to dermatology to check the skin bumps I already have, and to one of their eye specialists just to have my eyes double checked for 'bumps' if she thinks it's a significant enough variance to be necessary. I'm pretty doubtful I'll be referred to anything else, especially since the few bumps I have haven't changed in size, shape, or number for 34 years. I always just thought they were skin tags; my dad has the same types of random, small bumps, which would make sense if it's a genetic thing.

Nice news to get before a long weekend, if nothing else!
