I'm still so conflicted about this drug.... I've seen so many women here mention that it cause weight gain yet that is not listed as a side effect, what is listed is weight loss although you wouldn't think that reading the anecdotal evidence (this site hahhaha)...

Has anyone actually lost weight on it?

I lost about 35 lbs on tamox. I did change my diet slightly, only slightly though. Cut out having bread & pasta as often, now it's a treat.

Yes, I dropped some excess pounds a few years ago by increased exercise and no snacking after dinner

Weight gain on the anti-hormonals is not a given. But I would think it is effected by each of our individual circumstances. I lost 12 lbs during my 18 months on tamoxifen. However, I did start up my low carb 'diet' again after going off it during chemo. Also, got back into my moderate exercise routine 3x per week. Not sure I would have lost the weight without these lifestyle changes. I've been taking Letrozole (Femera) now for 7 weeks and haven't seen any weight gain. What does seem true to me is that it seems more difficult to lose weight while on these medications. But I think that is true of menopause in general.

I lost a few pounds on tamoxifen and was not trying. I do exercise daily and did bake an effort to eat fewer processed foods

I have been on tamoxifen since August and I haven't gained any weight or lost (I am at a happy weight) but I do eat low carb, high fat and walk a lot. Likely helps with maintaining. Don't be afraid of tamoxifen it really isn't too bad at all!

Will it kill my periods too.. i'm so done with periods - I could literally live with a litany of SE's to not have a period.

I lost 18 pounds on Tamoxifen. But I also gave up dairy products (hormones!) and now eat plant-based diet, with a little bit of poultry occasionally, and I almost completely eliminated alcohol (one or two a month now, instead of daily). I also made sure I had a walk every day.

jackydoo, welcome to our community. You are fortunate, if you needed to lose that weight. Did you experience a change in appetite?

I felt like I did initially gain a pound or two but then got back to my normal weight. In fact right now I'm a couple of pounds below normal and I haven't changed anything. I think in part I'm lighter in the winter (what we have of it in San Antonio) because our summer humidity adds a couple of pounds. My MO told me I would definitely gain weight on Tamoxifen but luckily that doesn't seem to be true. I'm thin so a couple of pounds isn't a big deal but still.

    Now, the hot flashes ....
