hi

In early July I noticed a thickening of the skin on my right breast. I was referred to a consultant as a precaution. He said it was very probably hormonal as I was getting an aching pain which is common with hormonal changes but not with cancer. He recovered me for a mammogram as a precaution. I also had an ultra sound which revealed a 12 mm mass which was biopsied as a precaution. Turns out I had high level DCIS. It was 75 mm . early Sept I had a skin sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.

Last week I found a small , hard, pea sized lump in the reconstructed breast. It's painless but the breast is numb from surgery . It's at the top of my breast by the armpit. My key nurse examined me and refereed me to my consultant whom I saw within two days. He examined me and said it is a cyst. I was hoping he would scan me but he said there is no need . I am relieved but also concerned

Sorry you are having this worry added to your plate. Obviously keep an eye on it, but they probably know what they think it is.

I had oil cysts as did a lot of my reconstruction cohort. It seemed like they all popped up at around the year mark. I read online that oil cysts commonly occur after any injury to the breast. While terrifying, they usually dissolve without any treatment. Mine were also just above my breast but more on my chest. I had an MRI to confirm.
