Tumor Markers

I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer three years ago. Everything has been going well. Today I had my check-up following my yearly mammogram. Everything still o.k. On the way out the doctor handed me an order for labs to be done prior to my next appointment in six months. This time she wants CA 25 29 which is a first for me. What is your experience? How often does your doctor have you do these tests? I also understand that some docs never order these tests. Is my doctor just doing her job or is it overkill?

My oncologist has checked these tumor markers every 6 months since I was diagnosed, along with a complete blood count and metabolic panel. After I finish my five years of tamoxifen next year, I will still be seeing her but only once a year, for how long I'm not sure.
