I woke up this morning with a blurry left eye. I cannot clear it. It's kind of like I lost my one lenses in my glasses. I have a call in to my doctor but was wondering if anyone experienced this. I know cataracts are one of the side effects, but this seems sudden.

CJSharma, my eye doctor said it's from severe dry eyes. I have been off tamoxifen for 3 months now and a month ago my baby cataract in my right eye became a full blown one overnights. My dry eye has not gone away either. I am on anastrasole now so perhaps it's a symptom of menopause not tamoxifen?

The taxanes cause eye dryness. Try an OTC eye drop (my ophthalmologist suggested Systane Balance or Systane Ultra). But also call your eye doc.

I am so glad that you called your doctor. Any eye issues should be reported immediately. My retina detached two years ago. I have no idea if it was due to the Tamoxafin but it was a complete nightmare!!!

    Good luck!!

If you haven't already called your Eye Dr and/or an Eye Specialist - do so immediately! Sight is too precious (and DELICATE) to mess around with!

There is no way to absolutely know what 'caused' what is going on but after Chemo and an AI, issues are not uncommon. Age also can play a factor as can family HX of eye issues. I was also told that I was possibly 'predistosed' to the eye issues that have developed since IBC TX as I have spent a lot of time 'outdoors' all my life and have light green eyes. Probably it's somewhat all of the factors in my life.

For me, approx. 2 yrs post Chemo (4 DD A/C, 12 weekly Taxol and on Femara) developed cataracts in both eyes (successful surgery). 2 yrs later, first retina detached. 4 weeks later it re-detached. 6 mths later other retina detached. That was 3 yrs ago.

See your Eye Dr - they are educated in eye issues, no matter the cause (if there is one that is known.). Something is going on with your eye and you need to see a Dr who is specialized in eyes. Each specialist is just that - a Specialist in their individual field.

Again - I will say eyes/sight is so delicate -immediate appropriate care is so critical!
