Anyone with Obamacare?

Options

Hi. I'm facing having to go on disability d/t destruction of my hip bone from mets. I've had mets for about 7 years now and while I don't want to stop working my job is on your feet and walking for 10 hour shifts with little to no time to sit. Realistically I'm not sure I can go back at least not full time and while I'm hoping one of the secretaries will quit soon and I could snag a desk job it's just hoping at this point. I don't qualify for Medicaid but also don't make a lot. I don't want to do Cobra for 24 months because it's outrageously expensive so I'm looking into marketplace plans. I'd have to find a new onc which blows but it is what it is. I'm wondering what others expierence with obamacare insurance has been? I'm so scared of not having enough coverage.

I have been on Obamacare for a couple of years and because I have always been pretty healthy, have not needed to use it much. However, things have changed. It seems that in addition to worrying about the cancer diagnosis itself, I am worrying about whether my insurance will allow me to go to a good cancer center for treatment. As luck would have it, I get this DX right before the end of the year--right before the deadline for selecting my new insurance under the Affordable Care Act. For 2016 I have had Premera insurance, but this will no longer be offered in my county for 2017. Only two companies were available to me and I had to pick one quickly. Now, it looks like my chosen insurance may not be contracted with many specialists or cancer centers in the greater Seattle area. I had my mammograms and biopsy done at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and I have faith in them, but they are not contracted with my new insurance. Now it's too late to change it.

I realize my cancer is small, as far as I know right now, but still I want to go to a breast cancer team that I have faith in. Also, for continuity of care purposes. I fear being relegated to some rural hospital without the expertise or technology to do the best job. I have worked in some small hospitals where the doctors got in over their heads on occasion.

I too am concerned about whether my new ACA insurance will provide enough coverage, or if it will be too restrictive on who I can see. Good luck to you!
