I had my surgery yesterday

I am writing this down in the hopes it will ease someone else's anxieties before their own surgery. In retrospect it was relatively easy, but at the time I wasn't so sure.

I had surgery two days ago. I got to the hospital before 10:00, and immediately had a chest X-Ray and EKG. Then about 11:00, they took me for an US, and insertion of the location wire. Because the tumor was deep about 6 cm behind the nipple, and I have DDD breasts, the radiologist had a difficult time getting the wire through to the tumor. Took several tries, and I ended up with two wires. They kept bouncing me back and forth between the US room where they do procedures, and mammography where they had to check the location of the wire. Surgery was scheduled for 2:30, but they were running about an hour behind. I guess it was about 3:15 when they finally came to get me. I requested monitored anaesthetic, but I don't remember a thing. I was awakened around 8:00. Doctor told my husband the surgery took almost 3 hours because of the location difficulties. I have two incisions, one about 4-5 inches across the top of the breast right above the nipple, and another about the same length in the armpit. It was a bit painful yesterday, but is better today. So glad this is behind me. Good news is the sentinel node was clear.
