I saw so many cases that people initially dx something, then later after surgery, their dx changed and gets upgraded. This makes me very worry -- is this normal and very common to happen?

I understand there is like 15-20% chance that during surgery, Dr. will find something that is not shown in the previous tests, but what is the odd that to be upgraded initial dx?

That is what that 20% is-in about 20% of the cases where only DCIS is diagnosed on a biopsy, invasive cancer is found on the final pathology after the lumpectomy or mastectomy.

I agree with Melissa. My dx was changed a little after mastectomy. I don't know if the addition helped or not but it was changed. I sometimes consider which, the first pathology or the second pathology report, is the right one or if there any third dx that was not done but was the right one.
