Prophylactic Mastectomy but MRI just threw curve-ball
Hi
4 years with the Genetic Cancer Clinic in Perth, Australia. Radical hysterectomy and oophorectomy 3 years ago; 1 year ago got the wheels turning for Bilateral Mastectomy with reconstruction in November.
Pre-operative MRI just found a mass in my sentinel node however so now biopsy has to be performed prior to surgery. Which means my surgery will probably get moved back a couple of weeks to get the test results. I'm lucky as if I wasn't booked in for the surgery it may not have been picked up but everything I've been reading about sentinel masses seems to rarely be benign.....??
My Mom had Breast Cancer when she was 21 and Ovarian a couple of years later (separate from each other). She died when she was 44.
My cousin (only female relative) is fighting her 3rd battle with Breast Cancer (her first was in her early 20's).
I just turned 43 yesterday - married, a 14yo son and 5yo daughter.

So very sorry you are going through this. Waiting for results is sheer h*ll. I hope your pathology is NOT anything serious. In any case I hope you find as much support and information here on this site as I have. I'm close to finishing my treatment (except the anti-estrogen pills) and can honestly say I would not have made it through everything without going crazy if not forthe wonderful women here. Sending (((((hugs)))))

Hello HalloweenDee, Happy Belated Birthday, and welcome to bco. There's lots going on for you and I'm sure it's a bit overwhelming.
You may want to take a few moments for some slow, deep breaths. It is so hard to wait for the biopsy and then the results. When is your biopsy scheduled? When is your surgery scheduled?
Your surgery may or may not get moved, but the surgical coordinator will handle that.By the way, what was your genetic results?
Holding your hand, and sending best wishes your way,
Madelyn

Thankyou so much ladies!!
Just had my biopsy today and get the results next Tuesday. Surgery booked for Friday
Really just want it over and done with now. Couldn't get the genetic testing as my Mom died over 20 years ago and everyone else with BC is dead (apart from a cousin on the other side of the world).
I've been told the mass is about 4-5mm (good) but has progressed in size quite quickly since the beginning of the year.
Hopefully just a reinforcement that my prophylactic mastectomy was meant to be (otherwise it wouldn't have been seen.)
