Linda, it is easier than going to the dentist. The first little poke when they start injecting the numbing stings for a second, then you don't feel anything but a little pressure. I thought lying on my stomach and being still for so long was worse than the biopsy itself.

Most experiences are like Melissa's. Mine, unfortunately, was not. The surgeon I used was young and obviously inexperienced in this procedure. The pain I went through was horrific. Don't ask, DEMAND, adequate pain management before the procedure, just in case you get a doctor like the one I unfortunately chose for my core needle biopsy. BEST WISHES!

hi Linda
I had my core needle biopsy today. I had no pain and it took less than 15minutes. What I read on the internet terrified the shite out of me. I had myself worked up for pain and tears and everything in between. In the end as I said there was no pain and my doc and nurse were both lovely
So far I found the mammogram the most painful of everything. And second to that pain the waiting
Hope all goes well for you

thank you so much for sharing that they told me they wud numb breast but I needed to have someone drive me home? Did you have that too?thanks again
-
No, they made it a point to tell me I would be fine to drive myself home (they don't give tranquilizers), and I was. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home.

I had a core needle biopsy and had no pain whatsoever. Since I'm a cowgirl, I wore my boots and belt with a big buckle. The radiologist told me that his mother-in-law also rode and we had lots of laughs!
Good luck and thinking of you.

were you able to drive yourself home? I like that you wore cowboots and stuff lol thanks for responding how are you doing with your cancer?

hi
I did have someone with me but I actually felt fine to drive myself home.

Linda, my biopsy was utterly painless, but I can certainly see how it wouldn't be if Lidocaine generally takes a while to numb you. The needle that was used on me was one that injected a small amount of Lidocaine before advancing, and although I thought of it as no more than a shot, really, it was the slowest shot I've ever had. I think it's because they wanted to make sure the Lidocaine was taking effect before advancing the needle. So if it hurts, let them know, and waiting a little longer for the Lidocaine to catch up might be just the thing. Fortunately, Lidocaine works immediately in me, and my biopsy was a big fat nothing as far as the experience goes.

thank you for responding and taking some of the stress out of tomr, not all street but a lot. Hope you are doing good and getting better.

Linda, just make sure that you are as comfortable as you can get yourself on the table before you let them start and you have to be still. The table I was on dips down in the middle, so it keeps you sway-backed with your heard turned to the side. I got muscle spasms in my neck and shoulder.
-
i will take that advice and make sure I don't need spasms that's for sure. I'm just so scared and full of anxiety.
-
I did the same thing, but the anticipation was a lot worse than the reality. You'll be fine.
-
I have one tomorrow too. Hopefully we bothe get good news. I will be thinking of you. What time is yours?
-
I won't lie I was scared. BUT the nurses were very nice. I had two nurses who talked to me and held my hand. There was no real pain, a little burn feeling when the first shot. I was sitting in a chair, with a pillow behind draped over the mammogram machine. There were two doctors. I found it actually less scary with them telling me what they were doing even though I couldn't see or feel it. Took the unknown out. Mine only lasted 30 minutes.
-
mine is at 9.30 I will be thinking of you and sending best wishes and prayers your way let me no tomr how yours went. Linda
-
hi how did core needle biopsy go? Mine went well it wasn't bad like I thought. Hope yours went good too and your recouping. God bless
-
Mine didn't hurt while doing it although I felt like they were jamming a meat thermometer in my boob like you would a chicken breast😳 It wasn't painful but the sensation was so awful. It did hurt like hell once the numbing meds wore off. I just am staring at my phone trying to will it to ring. I just want to know the results! I should have them no later than Friday but hopefully sooner. When will you get yours

Weneke6 I got to watch mine on the ultrasound . I don't know if they intentionally positioned it where I could see (since I had to roll my eyes up toward the top of my head), but once they realized I had a full view, they didn't make any effort to hide it. I've had doctors move the screen into my line of vision when they realized I wanted to see what was going on (and that their baby docs had flipped the screen away) . When they finally got the machine to let loose of the samples, they even brought them around so I could see them. (I know - I'm odd. But as long as it doesn't involve my spouse's or daughter's pain/blood, I'd rather see than not.)
Of course, when the machine broke - being able to see the action stop was kind of a dead give-away, even if I hadn't known enough medical terminology to know what was going on . . .
Now, when I have a couple of minutes, I need to read up on how they actually grab the sample - since the positioning and filling the needle didn't look exactly like I envisioned.
Crossing my fingers for results later today (the earliest)..
