Had a double mastectomy in May, it is still not healing, in July and Sept, had to go and have surgery to clean out infection, and now again it is not healing, will have to have another surgery, was told it could be lack of blood supply to the breast, and also delayed healing is a side affect of Hercetin. I have lost all toe nails, am very weak, and joints pain !! I will be on Herceptin until January

HI ginnagoose, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're so sorry you're dealing with this unpleasant side effect of surgery. What a shame to have been dealing with this for so many months! Hopefully your doctors will have some answers for you soon.

In the meantime, hopefully some of our ever-helpful community members will weigh in with their thoughts, experiences, and suggestions. Also, from the main Breastcancer.org site's page on Delayed Wound Healing, we found this tip on how nutrition can help you heal:

"Eat citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish, and eggs. These foods have nutrients that help promote wound healing. During the healing process, your body needs increased amounts of calories, protein, vitamins A and C, and sometimes the mineral zinc."

We hope this helps, and that you feel better soon!
