Swollen feet

My mom just finished 8 cycles of taxotere and cytoxan. In August she went on a 5 hour flight and since then her feet have been swelling every day. She has never had a problem with swelling before. Her doctor first checked for blood clots. The ultrasound was normal. She was just sent for an echo. We are waiting for the results. She said it is getting worse and it's becoming uncomfortable. She had an echo last year and it was normal so I can't imagine there would be a problem now but you never know. Anyone have experience or advice? Maybe we need to see another specialist but I'm not even sure who that would be. She is not currently taking steroids either, although she was up until about a month ago.

It sounds like it could be atypical Lymphedema. Did she have lymph nodes removed? I have heard of chemo damaging existing lymph nodes, leading to Lymphedema.

Here's to finding her some relief. My mum had Lymphedema in her affected arm, and it was quite uncomfortable for her.

Thnks for the feedback. She had a mastectomy with lymph nodes removed twenty years ago but never had issues with lymphedema.

Swollen feet can also occur as the result of liver, cardiac, or kidney issues, as well as other reasons. Your mother should consult with her doctor and if necessary seek another medical opinion.

thanks... those are what I'm most worried about. We should find out results from heart today and go from there.

She needs to check what her Albumin counts are. If they are too low, fluid aren't getting to the cells, so the fluid gets absorbed by the body.

Thanks. She had that tested and it came back normal! The heart also thankfully came back ok. They are checking her thyroid now.

thanks so much for checking. Still no news. All tests have come back normal which is great but something isn't right.
