Hi Sunflower... I am one of the unlucky gals that did not get her hair back :-( But this risk is only with Taxotere, as far as I know. Thats the one I had and all the other ladies.. you can read up on us at www.aheadofourtime.org

I have not heard of this happening with Taxol, but maybe others have?? I will say it sucks HUGE time, as I had no idea it was a possibility - I had chemo in 2011, and Sanofi Aventis did not change the label until last year.. Had I known, I would have asked for Taxol - or you can do cold caps... Lots of great info here on them... All the best to you!

Sunflower if you are doing weekly taxol then I have never heard of anyone with permanent hair loss. As a Stage 4 I've been on it for 3 years and while it all fell out to begin with I now have a full head of hair despite still getting Taxol every week.

While I've never used cold caps a lot of ladies do with great success. Maybe check out the Weekly Taxol thread.

    Good luck with your treatmen

As the others have said, that risk is with Taxotere, not Taxol. Taxol is very doable.

    Hi,

Don't be scared the drug affects everyone differently. For me it's been 5 years with no hair re-gowth but was taking Taxotere.

I had Taxol, not Taxotere, and only got about 70% of my hair back. I don't mean to dampen your hopes or anything. I had more and different chemo a few months later, which didn't help my scalp, I'm sure. (5-FU AND MITOMYCIN-C). Those cooling caps were not available at the time. I would use one if I had it to do over again. There's no lawsuits for people who lost their hair to Taxol.

so I've been on weekly taxol for over 3 years now. Same dose as the 12 week course. I lost all my hair to start with but it started growing back a few cycles in and while it's been slow I now have a full head of hair and that's despite getting Taxol well over 100 times.

Hello: I had Taxotere, but I started using Brian Joseph's Shampoo before my Chemotherapy started. My hair did grow back. Please remember that not every one will have the same experience with Taxotere. So, every one I caution you not to be so negative with Taxotere. It is possible if I had not used the Shampoo specially formulated for people going through Chemotherapy and Radiation, maybe my hair would not have grown back.

It was the mastectomy boutique that I went to that introduced me to this product line.

I'm sorry that you're going through this! Yes, it is a terrible thing to lose your hair, even temporarily! I did have taxotere after my recurrence 9 years ago. I was fortunate and do have a full head of hair now. I hope this helps and I wish you well.
