Anyone tested positive for Lynch Syndrome? A collection of genetic abnormalities that can cause increased risk for various cancers including breast cancer. My cousin, who just passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 55, tested positive for this. His mother and my mother are identical twins. I just went for genetic testing . They are going to test for BRCA first and maybe for Lynch Syndrome after they get my cousin's medical records. Curious if anyone knows more about this. My aunt, his mother, was also just diagnosed with BC

I haven't been tested, but my oncologist believes my brother and I have Lynch Syndrome. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in my twenties (there is an extensive family history), and there is a history of pancreatic, urinary, uterine, and breast cancers, as well as melanoma. I also had bilateral mastectomies as I was thought to have a rare breast tumor that does not respond to chemo or radiation.

Thanks for your reply! After talking to my mother yesterday, I am wondering more and more as she said there's a history of colon cancer on her side, which I did not know. I am the oldest of my siblings, at age 58, and ALL of us have had colon polyps. My Mom also told me that there was a university study done on our family because of this history (it was back when I was a kid so I don't remember much about it). She has the 50-page study they came up with so won't my doctor be interested to see that?! I guess there is a very detailed family tree in there. Interesting. Well it would be good if I find something out as I have two kids and they need to know.

I am so glad our kids know and can hopefully benefit--they'll start having colonoscopies in their teens and will know to be monitored for other issues. I'm not sure whether we'll do the testing; there seem to be pros and cons, and for the moment knowing wouldn't change our current monitoring.

my genetic counsellor says my breast cancer is probably not related, but we have a number of Lynch type cancers in the family, so we will be looking into it.
