scar tissue

For 25 yrs scar tissue has been forming in my chest, resulting form a mastectomy and causing great discomfort. I never knew what the problem was, until it became more than just annoying. My Dr is thinking scar tissue from the surgery.

How prevalent is this and what can be done to get relief?

Scar tissue is a fairly common side effect of mastectomy and/or reconstruction. Some of the suggestions include physical therapy or massage. But if the tissue has become stiff and painful, you may want to discuss other options with your doctor and surgeon, such as surgical removal of the tissue.
