Hello everyone I was tested back in 2014 came back positive for BRAC 1 mutation. So needless to say I got scared. So I put it out of mind out of sight didn't think of it again no more until this year a couple of months now. So now it has been weighing heavy on my mind. I have 3 children I am 33. So after talking to all the doctors I came to the conclusion to have the Bilateral prophylactic mastectomy and a hysterectomy since I am done having children.

So now I am the point to where I am ok with going forward and then the financial part comes in to play. Yes I have insurance and they are paying most but I have to pay my part first before surgeries. I have searched and every thing that helps only for those who have BC. What about us who want to prevent that? Is there anything?

So my question is is there anything place organizations charities grants anything that can help pay for prevention?

Any help or direction is accepted.

    Hi Tara-

Have you reached out to patient services at the center or hospital where you'll be having your surgery done? They may have some information about how to manage the financial burden of prophylactic treatment. Also, we have a forum that might have some info you'll find helpful, you can find that here: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/113.

We commend you for making the decision to move forward with preventative treatment, we know it isn't an easy one to make! And we hope you find some information here or through your hospital to help off-set some of the costs!
