DCIS/MX and Future Pregnancy

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with DCIS. I have accepted that I will need full MX and possibly ML pending the results of the genetic test. Dr. recommended MX due to size of lump and unclean margins. I am 29 years old and was looking forward to starting a family soon and am wondering if there are others who got MX before having children. How did it feel (or not feel)? This will not influence my decision to get the MX, but prepare me mentally for the future. I do feel "lucky" that the current diagnosis suggests I would not need hormonal therapy like tamoxifen.

We are sorry that you find yourself in this situation at such a young age. You WILL get through it! Much will depend on your expectations around nursing, weighing the pros and the cons of what you medical team suggest.Hopefully others will chime into this important discussion!

Welcome! I would check in on https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/27 a forum for those under 40 - there are several threads concerning pregnancy during and post- bc diagnosis/treatment. There are certainly others who have gone on to have successful pregnancies and healthy children.

Jelson, thank you for pointing me to the under 40 forum. I am already finding many useful discussions on there.

    Hi ElizHen87,

    How is it going?

I had BMX for DCIS a year ago and my DCIS was ER/PR+, Her2-, grade 1&2. I am pregnant today (only 5weeks) but since I'm 40 it is still too early to get excited. I am also BRCA2+. Just bumping in to say I can definitely relate to your concerns. I had 4 and 1/2 year old son when I was diagnosed but wanted a second baby so badly ever since my son was born.

My doctors told me it was ok to go for pregnancy.

I started a new topic on this:

Feel free to PM me anytime.
