Terrified!! Recently diagnosed
Recently diagnosed with IDC so just looking for some insight. Trying not to give myself a death sentence but I'm losing my mind right now. Started with a lump in my breast and after my last MRI and pet scan they're telling me they saw something in my chest, thyroid and a "fullness in my ovaries" whatever the heck that means. But I get my full results of the scans tomm. This is sobad

Sheliahm,
I came here because last week my mother was dx with IDC/CIS. Today her estrogen receptor test came back HER2. Tomorrow she goes in for her port and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Thursday they explain her chemo treatments. I believe they are going to start chemo first then do the masectomy. She will most likely decide to get a double.
You know I was not that upset when we went with an abnormal mammogram but I knew the fact they got her into the MRI the next day it was not a good sign. I was really hoping for ER/PR + but it was not to be. We are a crazy positive family. Have been laughing about this for a week and making jokes. It is not that we don't know it is serious it is just the way we deal. I have to share something with you that will make you laugh. My mother is a crazy, busy and artistic lady. She is always transposing words and phrases. I was explaining that she had cancer in the milk ducts of her breast. So in response and asking me a questions she stated, "The cancer in my milk duds, will this go other places?" Of course I about died laughing. Once she realized what she said we were both crying. Now, we tell everyone she has Cancer of the milk duds. I suspect she will be getting a lot of milk duds for Christmas.
Stay positive. What was your hormone receptor results?

Hi tagezs
I'm not sure sure they won't tell me anything I do remember they nurse navigator saying "the good this is that it's not hormone receptive. I tried to research it but too much info and medical terms I just don't understand. I try to ask questions while I'm at the doc but I just sit there dumbfounded.

Sheliaham - I am sorry you are going through this! Do you have access to your pathology report from the biopsy? We can help you disect the information. I always ask for a copy of everything and then come here to figure out anything I don't understand, so I can then, turn back around and ask my docs questions. I've found it very frustrating to have them in front of me, relaying information from reports that I have not seen and then having them ask "Do you have any questions?" I'm always like "ummmm???"

Shellahm: Chemotherapy works very well for hormone negative breast cancer. Pet scan will pick up things not even related to your breast cancer and can scare the hell out of you. Try to be patient...one step at a time. I know this is hard....one's mind races back and forth. Wishing you well on this journey.

Hello,
I just had a MX last Friday and my BS said my nodes were negative. I am waiting for the full pathology report to come back from the doctor but I've read that people have gotten body scans after being diagnosed with an invasive cancer. My doctors haven't given me one saying the stage and size of the tumor means it most likely hasn't spread anywhere else and with the nodes being negative when the BS did the SNB during surgery it's likely it hasn't gone anywhere else. Should I ask for a full body scan just to see if there's anything there

Hello misty. I'm still learning here but I would wait for the test to come back and if further test needs to be done they probably would send for one. But it wouldn't hurt to ask just to see what they'll say. Those scan are really expensive so I don't think they would order one unless it was absolutely necessary. Sorry I couldn't be of more help
-
One reason they don't jump right in and order also....if you have no reportable symptoms, insurance probably will not approve.

Misty
Do you mind sharing why you decided on a MX.
I am having a lumpectomy on Monday

Sheliahm,
I know exactly how you feel. I recently had surgery and had initial consults with radiation and oncology. I would get so angry at myself after appointments because I would come up with so many questions I felt I should have asked during the appointment. We all go through this. It IS a lot of information. I recommend keeping a notebook handy for all of the questions you'll think of after your appointment so you'll have them for the next one. I hope this helps.
I wish you nothing but the best with prayers!
